Do I need a referral from my GP?
No referral is necessary. We will be happy to arrange your appointment. Your child may be eligible for partial Medicare rebates (see Fees tab), in which case a GP referral is required.
How long will I have to wait for an appointment or report?
In most cases you will be offered an initial appointment within two to four weeks, this will depend on your flexibility. After your assessment has been completed, your written reports will be completed within 2 weeks.
How long are sessions? S
Sessions can range between 30 minutes, 45 minutes or 60 minutes depending on the age of your child and the purpose of the session. Assessments and review appointments take longer than average therapy sessions. Standard therapy appointments are 45 minutes, and younger children typically cope better with shorter appointments of 30 minutes.
How often will I need to come?
The frequency and duration of therapy will depend on the nature of the difficulty and the level of concern. Specific details can be provided after we have met with your child and assessed their speech and language skills. Typically, children benefit from attending regular (weekly or fortnightly) sessions for a set period of time, such as 45 minutes per week for 6 weeks to develop a relationship with your child, and to develop routines within clinic and at home. Depending on your child, this can then become less intensive to suit your child’s needs.
How long will therapy take?
It can be difficult to predict treatment length since there are many influencing factors that can impact on your child’s success during therapy. Depending on the nature and severity of your child’s difficulty, therapy could last a few weeks to months or years.
